How to enter
The competition is open to non-fiction programs dealing with issues about Latin America and its people, produced independently as well as for television, from anywhere in the world.
All documentaries produced or completed after 1 January, 2008, are eligible.
Each participant may enter a maximum of two programs.
All documentaries with a minimum length of 40 minutes are eligible.
The completed entry form must reach the DVSA Award secretariat no later than January 15, 2010.
Entry forms must be submitted by post. Should an entry be made by fax, the original entry form must still be submitted by post.

By no later than January 1, 2008, the secretariat must be in possession of:
  • a copy of the documentary - see technical details

Technical details
All entries must be sent to the above-mentioned address, preferably on a non protected DVD. If possible, send a DVD with English subtitles. If not, an English language script is required.
We recommend  applicants not to send master tapes and to check the quality of the materials before dispatch.

Supplementary conditions
Documentary makers who submit an entry for the Dirk Vandersypen Award accept the full terms and conditions of the Dirk Vandersypen Award.

-The Dirk Vandersypen Award Ceremony will be held in Turnhout (Belgium) on Sunday May 2, 2010 at the festival Open Doek (www.opendoek.be). We would appreciate the presence of the winning documentary maker at the ceremony to attend the screening of the documentary (and Q&A).
-The Dirk Vandersypen Award winner will be invited as well at the Latin American Film Festival (www.laff.nl) in Utrecht (The Netherlands) on Friday May 7, 2010 for an introduction of the screening and Q&A.
- All postal, customs, insurance and other costs involved in submitting the entry and the accompanying material will be borne by the entrant.
- The organisers have the right to broadcast excerpts from each entry at Laff and Open Doek Festival(with a maximum of 5 minutes) without being liable for any financial compensation.
- The Belgian Public Broadcaster (television) VRT Canvas pledges to purchase the documentary selected as the winner of the Dirk Vandersypen Award.
   The prize-winning documentary shall be purchased at the then prevailing market price and under the then prevailing market conditions.
- The organisers will retain a copy of the winning entry for the archives of the Dirk Vandersypen Award Society.  Entries will only be returned if this is explicitly requested in writing by the entrant. All possible costs will be borne by the entrant.
- Entries which do not comply with the competition rules will be disqualified.
- The jury's decision is final.
