To commemorate Dirk, to encourage other journalists to follow his example and to keep Latin America in the public eye, his partner Ann De Roo, his friends, relatives and colleague journalists have founded the Dirk Vandersypen Award.
The Dirk Vandersypen Award is an international prize of 2,500 euro and a guaranteed broadcast by the Belgian TV channel VRT-Canvas.
It is presented to the maker of the best television documentary about Latin America. This documentary must explore social themes and show genuine concern for the lot of the ordinary man.
The prize encourages television makers to continue to focus attention on Latin America in an independent and authentic manner.
