On Wednesday 26 September, 2001, the first Dirk Vandersypen Award has been presented to Daničle Lacourse and Yvan Patry for their film Alonso’s Dream.
The prize-giving ceremony was graced with music from Latin America performed by Dirk Van Esbroeck and Juan Masondo. It was hosted by Latin America specialist Liesbet Walckiers. Former Belgian Public Television Channel Manager Leo De Bock introduced the nominated documentaries. Promedia Marketing Director Michel De Bolle presented the cheque and the Belgian Secretary of State Eddy Boutmans explained why the prize has his approval.
